UDL Checklist
Universla Design for Learning was something that I had never heard of or thought about before this class. I had always thought that you should evaluate your students needs and base how the curriculum was presented from that. UDL showed me that I can better reach my students by evaluating the curriculum for strenghts and weaknesses rather than the students themselves. After thinking about this concept I agree with it, by knowing where my weaknesses in the curriculum are I am able to address those issues before the material is even presented to the students. This makes it easier to reach more students and ensure that all are learning.
When evaluating my lesson, I saw that I had put some of the principles into practice but still had a long way to go. I was pleased see that some of the principles were things I was naturally doing. There were a few that I had never considered and by doing the evaluation I was able to recognize these pitfalls and go back into my lesson to change them. This will be a tremendous help because I do best with checklists myself. This checklist will be something that I am able to use for the rest of my educational career. I will be able to share it with my department and school. This will help us all to get out of the midset of "teaching to the test" due to the strict curriculum needs.
How very thorough you were with your lesson. We can only believe things will be better when as educators we take a more critical look at how we plan for teaching.
